Hello friends, wonder if anyone has had the following problems, i have a very tender spine, too sore to run finger over it and tender spots all over back, feels bruised! I have called rheumy nurse who has got me an appointment for next Wednesday but that seems too far away or is that considered quite soon in the rheumatology world? Thanks emilyXXX.

So sorry my love, can't help with this one. Sad you are in so much pain. Could you perhaps have an urgent visit to your GP in the meantime for some stronger pain relief. Let us know how things progress. Much love xxxxxx

Hi Emily
I haven't encountered that but I am afraid that is a very good appointment in the rheumy world or at least it is in my rheumy clinic.
Good luck with your appointment.

Thanks jean, sheila and poppy for your replies, poppy, i seem to get it 24/7 at the moment to be honest although the spine tenderness is new one on me, not had it like this since dx 4 years ago now. Last year i had physio on thes tender points on my back (had 2-3) where the physio manipulated them which seem to release the tension but this time they are all over my back, atleast 10 of them spreading all over and in my back rib cage too. Will keep you posted how things go next Wednesday, i will be grateful for the appointment now i know that's considered a good time but might go to see GP to get stronger pk's as you suggest Jean. Thanks again XXX.

hi emily.
Mine plays up and I am never sure if it is about fibro or the ra and the crappy posture it gives me.
My son michael has been going to chiropractor who has been manipulating his back and neck as he has poor posture and this makes the joints very tight. I wouldnt be able to tolerate the popping of joints he does but it made me realise how tight all my back/ neck is and how painful this is alone, let alone adding in the other bits!
He recommends cold treatment for him and this means a cold towel and ice pack.
If you manage, have you considered a gentle massage? Aroma therapy?
I used to get richard to do it as I could confidently tell him how hard to push!
a few more things, the illiac sacral joint can get swollen and hot. plus the pelvis hurts the acertabulum gets irritated, the colar bone and also the joints in the back themselves (although the spinal joints are very unusually affected) the ribs are to do with plural swelling of the sack of the lungs and the higher up ribs pain in the front br sternum, is sometimes called costocondritis.
Oh I am boring!

Hi Emily, I get this and I've always put it down to Fibromyalgia. What ever it is I hope you get it sorted next Wed. Whenever I go I hope for a miracle cure or pray for one. If you find what it is it can deal with it better. Let us know won't you. Glenys.

Hi Emily, I have told my consultant, she examined me and sent me for xrays on my spine and chest.I don't know if anything showed up.I have also had an mri scan on my neck.I have never been told what is causing it so i have just put it down to the RA.My spine and ribs play me up daily as well, some worse than others.I am between drugs at the moment i start Rituximab in two weeks so hopefully this will ease it.Maybe you need your drugs changing. Hope all goes well.

i've been complaing of a painful back for ages, it was really bad after my knee replacement, due to the tugging/pulling and force used in surgery. had an xray and it showed extensive degenerative changes. my rhematiogist has been telling me that it doesnt affect the spine, but how wrong was he! i have found a tens machine and heat pads the most afffffective on the pain after drugs, (the occational dose of morphine) the tens machine, and gentle exercise like swimming, is about the best thing so far, as physio makes it more painful
